Tourism in Himachal Pradesh
Himachal is famous for its landscapes and hill-stations. Many outdoor activities such as climbing, mountain biking, paragliding, ice-skating, trekking and rafting are popular tourist attractions in Himachal Pradesh. In the past tourism in the state was very limited to a few places around the hills and some spiritual destinations. Now people from rest of country and foreigners comes to know about Himachal Pradesh.

Bijali Mahadev

Shimla is a state capital and Shimla district has many places like Mashora, Kufri, Chail, Narkanda located in at an altitude of around 8850 feet and known for its apple orchards which are popular among tourists. Ridge and the Mall Road are very famous all over the world. Ridge is also the centre of most cultural activities of Shimla. Other popular hill stations in Himachal are Manali, Kinnuar, Manikaran, Malana, Dalhousie, Kullu, Kinnar Kailesh,Kasauli, Mandi and Dharamshala. Mclodganj which is famous for its Tibetan monasteries, Buddhist temples and home of the Dalai Lama. Himachal Pradesh is laying in the ‘The Shivalik Range’ which are in the mid- Himalayas. The highest peak in the state is Reo Purgyil with a height of 6,816 m in Kinnaur. There are some reservoirs and rivers in Himachal Pradesh which are tourist hotspots due to water port activities.The four rivers in the state which are Ravi, Chenab, Sutlej and Beas. The Sutlej river (at Tattapani), Beas river (at Vashisht) and Parvati river (at Manikaran) also having hot springs where tourist can take bath during heavy snowfall.

At the altitude of 1500 m to 4500 m and with the area of near about 600 sq km, The Great Himalayan National Park is found in the

Kullu districts of Himachal Pradesh.There are types of forest found in the park as Deodar Silver Fir, Spruce, Oak and Alpine pastures. The part is also famous for different kind of animals such as Snow Leopard, Himalayan Yak, Himalayan Black Bear, Monal and Musk Deer. This National Park is a trail to many hikers and trekkers too.
Sanctuaries:
There are sanctuaries which are tourist spots such as Naina Devi Sanctuary and Gobind Sagar Sanctuary in Bilaspur district with an area of 120 sq km and 100 sq km respectively. The animals such as Indian porcupine and giant flying squirrel also found here. The Gobind Sagar Lake is also famous for different types of fish species like Mrigal, Silver carp, Katla, Mahaseer and Rohu.

Himachal is also known as ‘Dev Bhumi’ Land of God. People of Himachal Pradesh celebrate many

festivals to worship gods and goddesses. The famous fair and festivals such as Kullu Dussehra, Chamba’s Minjar, Renuka ji Fair, Lohri, Halda, Phagli, Lossar and Shivratri fair.

Railway and Aviation:      
 As the Himachal is a hilly area so there are limitations for railways. There are two railways lines, one is Kalka- Shimla and other is Pathankot-Joginder Nagar. Kalka-Shimla is a heritage site by UNESCO. There are three airports are functioning at Gagal in Kangra district, Bhunter in Kullu district and Shimla in Shimla district. Fourth airport of international level is to be constructed in Mandi district which should be the biggest airport in Himachal Pradesh.
