Trip To Prashar Lake

The tranquil Prashar Lake is located in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, India, tucked away amid the magnificent Dhauladhar mountain range. At 2,730 meters (8,960 feet) above sea level, this freshwater lake provides amazing views and a serenity that is difficult to find elsewhere.

This place is known for Prashar Lake, sloppy meadows, and deodar forest. The Prashar Lake has a floating island that moves with airflow. The lake has crystal clear water but due to the government’s ignorance lake, this water can’t used for drinking. Traditionally, it is believed that the lake was formed as a result of the striking of the wooden stick by Rishi Prashar and water came out and took shape of the lake. Divers tried to measure the depth of this lake but no one could succeed in it. An ancient Pagoda-style temple dedicated to the Rishi Prashar, the patron God of the Mandi region, stands beside the lake.

Prashar Temple

The temple was constructed by King Bansen in the 13th century. It is said that this temple has been constructed from a tree of deodar, but it does not seem like anything. A visit to Parashar is a perfect blend of a spiritual journey and exploring the serene and beautiful Himalayan mountains. Several camping sites are also located here and it is the base for numerous easy & hard treks. People from Mandi and other adjoining Districts visit the place to worship Prashar Rishi and believe that their wishes shall be fulfilled by the blessings of the Rishi. On the 14th  and 15th of June, the “Saranauhali” fair takes place which is attended by a large number of locals from Mandi and Kullu and all over Himachal. The weather is very pleasant during the summer, but it gets snowfall of about three feet in the winter, due to which you have to walk 19 km from a place called Bagi to reach here in winter. Here is the forest and HPPWD rest house and Sarai of the temple also available for a night stay.

 A Mystical Setting

The lake's crystal-clear waters are thought to possess mystical powers, and legend has it that the lake was formed by the strike of a sage's staff. On the lakeshore, a three-story temple resembling a pagoda dedicated to the sage Prashar heightens the ethereal atmosphere of the place.

Natural Beauty

The lake is encircled by verdant meadows and snow-capped peaks, producing an idyllic scene. In the summer, the meadows are dotted with wildflowers, adding to the allure of the scene. The lake serves as a refuge for migratory birds, and if you're lucky, you may see some uncommon species while you're there.

Activities

Prashar Lake offers a wide range of activities. You can walk through the meadows, take a leisurely stroll around the lake, or just kick back and take in the beauty of the surroundings. Another well-liked pastime is fishing, and you can rent a boat to explore the lake.

Accommodation

Near the lake are a few guesthouses, homestays, and two government rest houses that provide simple but cozy lodging. Another option is to camp next to the lake beneath the stars.
